Looking for new places to ride? Here are a few of our favorite places to ride in and around Birmingham. There are options for every level of rider, from easy-going paths to challenging mountain trails.

Oak Mountain State Park

50+ miles of pro built single track, double track, gravity/downhill, pump track, beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails.

Red Mountain Park

A 15-mile trail system that traverses exciting and diverse terrain. Includes scenic views. Great for beginners but has some advanced features as well

Tannehill State Park

Tannehill has roughly 15 miles of trail winding through the hills surrounding a historic Civil War-era foundry. Machine-built fast-flowing cross-country trails.

Coldwater Mountain

60 miles of premier, purpose-built singletrack, ranging from beginner to expert, including flowy, rocky, and jump-filled terrain. Rated as a Bronze Level Ride Center by IMBA.

Trussville Sports Complex

Trussville City Park has approximately 5 miles of trail, mostly hand-built singletrack, bordering the Cahaba River. Much of the trail is rooty and technical, but there is plenty of fast flowing trail to mix it up.

Turkey Creek

About 3.5 miles of easy to moderate difficulty multi-use trail in the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.

Trail Of Legends

12 miles of trails for hiking and biking near the historic Swayback Bridge.

Lake Lurleen

More than 23 miles of multi-use trails ranging from easy to moderate in difficulty.

Duck River

A 20 mile loop around the lake. Single track trail.

Munny Sokol

About 5.7 miles of beginner to intermediate level single track trails.

Gardendale Urban Trail System

A 3-mile trail that is easy to extend the mileage by the addition of Wild West and Peak Attack.

Lake Howard

Sylaward Trails at Lake Howard in Sylacauga, AL, offer roughly 15 miles of fast, flowing, and mostly intermediate (blue) singletrack suitable for all skill levels.

Noccalula Falls Park

The Black Creek Trail system in Gadsden at Noccalula Falls Park offers a scenic, multi-use, and singletrack mountain biking experience covering roughly 16 miles of machine-cut trails with approximately 110 ft of elevation change per mile. Ranging from easy to moderate, these trails are popular for cross-country riding, featuring rocky terrain, flowing sections, and challenging climbs.

Cahaba River Park

Cahaba River Park offers roughly 17 miles of purpose-built, professionally constructed mountain biking trails featuring a mix of scenic, wooded singletrack with beginner as well as some technical rocky sections suitable for riders looking for a fun, intermediate challenge.

Black Creek Mountain

New trail Fall 2019. Spanning 73 acres of up and down woodland terrain and offering 5 miles of trails.

RideBHM

RideBHM is Alabama’s first downhill mountain biking park, where a day pass or membership gets you access to some of the sickest downhill trails in Alabama.

McClellan Mountain Bike Trail

15 Miles of purpose built singletrack and is perfect for beginner riders of all ages. It is the first specifically designed NICA trail in the state of Alabama. The system has a great variety of green and blue trail segments. Trail names capture the history of the military base, community figures and local heros. Equally fun in either direction, the trails twist, turn and roll around Sunset Hill and along the base of the Baltzell Mountains.

Double Oak Park

Double Oak Park is the Birmingham area’s newest trail system, and was funded and developed by Shelby County. Phase 1 is complete with about 10 miles of trail machine-built trail, which is rocky and drains well. Much of Double Oak Park’s trail system is situated on top of a massive ridgeline, which requires an almost 2-mile long climb up from the main parking area, but once you’re over the ridge you’ll be rewarded with incredible views and chunky machine built descents with lots of alternate lines to choose from.
